Session Settings

Notes

  • Multiple Windows means that you will be signed out more frequently since the mainframe session enforces a 30 minute time out in each window.
  • These settings (Options: Session will keep you logged in. Options Menu
  • YOU MUST also set your screen saver to Password Protect and the idle time to less than 30 minutes. I prefer 8 minutes.
    Screen Saver
  • These settings will:
    • Session Idle Time: Every 15 minutes
    • Session Idle Key: Push "Enter"
    • Session Close: log out after 180 minutes (3 hours).

Session Settings

A LOCKING SCREEN SAVER is required to protect your workstation and the data it can access.

-- These QWS settings defeat the required timeout settings on the mainframe. A compensating control (required for audit data security) is to enable the locking screen saver.

-- Your QWS sessions will remain active, even though the screen is locked.

-- One problem to watch out for is that if the screen you are on creates actions when enter is pressed, the actions will continue to happen every 15 minutes. For example, if you are in the middle of an edit when you are distracted, an enter key will get pressed 15 minutes after you remove your hands from the keys.

-- You may want to adjust the Idle time and keep this admonition in mind!!

--PLEASE don't enable the session idle settings without locking your screen saver.
